Boxing champion Floyd Mayweather to fight Sharmba Mitchell
Floyd Mayweather, the WBC light welterweight champion, will be fighting
against Sharmba Mitchell in a non-title bout in Portland on Saturday.
Floyd Mayweather wanted to get in the ring with Oscar de la Hoya and
views the bout with Sharmba Mitchell as little more than a public
workout.
"I'm just staying sharp so I can be ready for the big pay-per-view
fights," said the unbeaten Floyd Mayweather, 28.
A showdown with Britain's IBF light welterweight champion Ricky Hatton
looks likely to take place next year, however, British, European and
Commonwealth champion Junior Witter is also going after Floyd Mayweather and
is set for a WBC eliminator fight against Italy's Gianluca Branco.
Floyd Mayweather, a three-weight world champion, is arguably the
world's best pound-for-pound fighter and won the WBC crown from Arturo
Gatti in June.
He claims he agreed on Sharmba Mitchell after failing to sort out
fights with undisputed welterweight champion Zab Judah, former world
champion Shane Mosley and light middleweight king Winky Wright. Sharmba
Mitchell, 35, is a former WBA light welterweight champion but was
destroyed in three rounds by Australia's Kostya Tszyu last November.
