Boxer Ricky Hatton will not face Gavin Rees
Boxer Ricky Hatton has dispelled rumours that he would be fighting WBA light-welterweight champion Gavin Rees.
It had been speculated that Ricky Hatton, 29, could meet Welsh fighter Gavin Rees, 27, in May at the MEN Arena in Manchester, but Ricky Hatton's father and manager Ray Hatton explained that the terms of the fight were not to his liking.
Ray Hatton said: "The prospect of a fight with Rees was put to us but the terms were not right and it won't be taking place. We have a long list of would-be opponents and a long list of venues."
But Ray Hatton revealed: "Ricky has said his next fight will be in Britain as a thank you to his fans who have been travelling across the Atlantic."
Gavin Rees, who is trained by Enzo Calzaghe in Newbridge, had really wanted to fight Ricky Hatton who lost to Floyd Mayweather in December and then went to Tenerife for a New Year's break.
