Boxer Ricky Hatton may retire if he loses next fight
British boxer Ricky Hatton says he is likely to retire if he gets beaten by IBF light welterweight champion Paul Malignaggi at his next fight in November.
Hatton has been in the ring just once since he was defeated in December last year by Floyd Mayweather Jr. He won against Juan Lazcano in his most recent bout but he admitted that he was not at his best in the fight.
30-year-old Hatton realises some people think he has past his best now but he still thinks he has what it takes. If he fails to prove this when he takes on Malignaggi though then perhaps he will quit.
Floyd Mayweather Snr, the father of the man who beat him, is currently training Ricky Hatton. Mayweather Snr will be coaching the British fighter for his clash with Malignaggi in Las Vegas.
Mayweather Jr has now retired himself, but Hatton says he would love to fight him again to see if he could make up for losing last time, but to do this Mayweather would have to break his retirement.
