Boxer Oscar de la Hoya wants showdown with Ricky Hatton
American boxer Oscar de la Hoya who had been reported to be retiring has decided he wants to carry on a while longer and says he wants to fight Ricky Hatton next year.
Oscar de la Hoya, 34, has put together a three-fight plan before he leaves boxing for good and he would like to go out with a bout against Ricky Hatton next autumn.
Oscar de la Hoya's plan first requires Ricky Hatton to defeat Floyd Mayweather in their forthcoming fight on 8 December in Las Vegas.
Oscar de la Hoya is reported to have said: "I'm not retired and I believe that my body can still handle the big fights,
"I want to fight three times next year, with two big fights in May and September. It isn't out of the question that I'll meet Ricky Hatton next year.
"I'm used to fighting once a year. I'm at the tail-end of my career but I feel that if I can have one tune-up fight first, get the ring-rust out of me, get into the rhythm of things, then I can have two other big fights in May and September."
Oscar de la Hoya has won 10 world titles in six divisions, and in 43 fights he has only suffered five defeats in his very impressive career.
