Boxer Miguel Cotto beats Alfonso Gomez
Puerto Rican boxer Miguel Cotto defeated Mexican Alfonso Gomez to hold on to his WBA welterweight title and go forward to facing the latest IBF champion Antonio Margarito.
Miguel Cotto has now claimed 32 victories from 32 fights and the 26th knockout of his career, when he floored Alfonso Gomez for the third time in the fifth round.
Miguel Cotto was defending for the fourth time the title he won on 2 December 2006 when he knocked out Carlos Quintana.
And Antonio Margarito, who has an impressive performance record of 36-5 with 25 knockouts, is eager to fight Miguel Cotto and said: "They promised me Cotto and they'd better deliver."
Miguel Cotto responded to this saying: "I want to be prepared for anyone, especially Margarito."
Boxing promoter Bob Arum is aiming to set the fight between Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito for the 26 July.
