Boxer Manny Pacquiao takes revenge on Erik Morales in Las Vegas
Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao got his revenge over Mexican Erik Morales
with a 10th-round stoppage in a barnstorming super featherweight bout
in Las Vegas.
Manny Pacquiao, from the Philippines, nearly dropped Erik Morales in round two and wobbled him again in the sixth.
With Erik Morales' nose appearing to be broken, Manny Pacquiao swarmed
all over the Mexican boxer in the eighth and ninth and Morales looked
as if all the fight had been knocked out of him.
Manny Pacquiao, 27, then floored Erik Morales twice in round 10 before the fight was stopped.
It was the first time that 29-year-old Erik Morales, a former
three-weight world champion, has been stopped and he has now lost three
of his last four fights.
Erik Morales had posted a unanimous decision over Manny Pacquiao,
himself a former two-weight world champion, last March, so this match
allowed the Filipino boxer to get his revenge for that.
"I saw I hurt him every time I hit him in the body," said Manny Pacquiao. "I know everyone in the Philippines is happy."
And Erik Morales said: "I was tired because of making weight and I was tired because of all the tough fights I've had."
Manny Pacquiao has now become the WBC's number one contender and Mexican boxing star Marco Atonio Barrera holds the WBC belt.
