Boxer Kevin McBride targets WBO world heavyweight title
Boxer Kevin McBride says he is close to a chance at the WBO world heavyweight title fighting against champion Serguei Lyakhovich.
Kevin McBride, 33, who had a surprise win over Mike Tyson in 2005, said new promoter Don King has sorted out a deal for him to challenge the Belarusian on 5 August.
Kevin McBride said: "Don King has assured me I will be fighting for the title in August.
"This is what I have dreamed of since I was a boy and I believe everything will be signed and sealed in a week or so."
Serguei Lyakhovich won the WBO belt when he scored higher points than American Lamon Brewster earlier this year but Kevin McBride isn't worried about that and is confident he can again spring a shock victory.
"Lyakhovich is a very good champion - he's got that good win over Brewster - but I know I can shake up the world again," Kevin McBride said.
