Boxer Jon Thaxton knocks out Juan Carlos Diaz Melero
British boxer Jon Thaxton has beaten Spaniard Juan Carlos Diaz Melero when he knocked him out in the third round, and in so doing, became the new European lightweight champion.
Thaxton defeated his opponent from Spain in front of his home crowd in Norwich.
34-year-old Thaxton, who has been fighting since 1992 now can boast 34 wins from 42 fights.
Thaxton, who is a southpaw fighter, hit Melero onto the floor of the ring with a single blow that kept his opponent down.
32-year-old Melero who has now lost the European title, simply was unable to withstand Thaxton's energy and the power of his punches.
Thaxton was naturally highly delighted with his home victory, which makes up for when Yuri Romanov beat him in a fight for the same title back in April.
Thaxton said he realised you don't get many second chances in life and felt that this was an occasion when he had had such a chance offered.
