Boxer Johnny Nelson defies medical advice
Boxer Johnny Nelson is defying medical advice by defending his WBO cruiserweight title against Enzo Maccarinelli in Manchester on 14 October.
Johnny Nelson had been told he would never box again after he suffered a knee injury while getting ready for his first scheduled meeting with the Welsh fighter in March.
"The surgeon told me I would not box again and when he said that to me it made my blood boil," said Johnny Nelson.
"I want to prove people wrong and nobody is going to dip my confidence."
Johnny Nelson will face Enzo Maccarinelli on the undercard of Joe Calzaghe's bout with Cameroon's Sakio Bika at the MEN Arena and he hopes to put his experience to good use.
"I watched Enzo's last fight on television at home, sitting in my underpants with my crutches by my side. They were talking about me retiring and I thought, this isn't happening," Johnny Nelson said.
"I have got two years left in boxing and I intend to retire at this level as a fighter," Johnny Nelson added.
