Boxer James "Lights-Out" Toney's doping ban reduced
Boxer James Toney will be able to fight again from 24 November after a one-year doping ban was reduced to six months on appeal.
The state of California Athletic Commission issued the suspension after James Toney had tested positive for the steroids boldenone and stanazolol and he was fined $2500, after he defeated Danny Batchelder in May. Danny Batchelder also tested positive and has been given a ban until 22 May, 2008.
James Toney, 38, who is nicknamed "Lights-Out," and is a professional boxer from Detroit, Michigan, had also tested positive for nandrolone in 2005, which cost him his win against then WBC heavyweight champion John Ruiz.
James Toney has denied knowingly ingesting any prohibited substances when he defeated Danny Batchelder on a split decision. The result of the fight still stands despite the positive doping test results.
James Toney is a former middleweight, super middleweight and cruiserweight world champion and has 70 wins from 79 fights in his past impressive career.
