Boxer David Haye hopes for European cruiserweight title
David Haye gets his chance to win the European cruiserweight title against Alexander Gurov in Bracknell on Friday.
25-year-old London boxer David Haye has won four fights since suffering
the only defeat of his career to Carl Thompson in 2004 and he feels he
is now ready to step up in class against Alexander Gurov, the Ukrainian
who has twice lost WBA title challenges.
"It's a big step up in class. I know that if I make mistakes he will
knock me out cold, but I am ready to work my way up the world
rankings," said David Haye.
David Haye is ranked number 10 by the WBC and is sure he has put his painful stoppage loss to Carl Thompson behind him.
"I feel I have improved in every aspect since the Thompson defeat," David Haye said.
"Mentally I am a different fighter. I take the sport much more
seriously now because I know what the consequences are if you don't. I
know what it's like to lose and I don't ever want to be in that
position again."
