Boxer Damaen Kelly aims to please his Belfast fans
Damaen Kelly is keen to please his Belfast fans when he faces Italian Simone Maludrottu for the European bantamweight title on Friday.
Former IBO super flyweight champion Damaen Kelly, 33, moves up a weight for the Andersonstown Leisure Centre bout with the Italian.
"It is the first pro fight ever at the centre and while it's good for the fans, it puts a little more pressure on me," Damaen Kelly said.
Damaen Kelly outpointed Ian Napa over 10 rounds in his last outing in November.
It was his first fight in a year and the bout only came about when a planned IBF world flyweight title fight in Sydney with champion Vic Darchinyan was cancelled.
Simone Maludrottu, who is making his fourth defence of the title, has a very impressive record of 21 victories and just one defeat.
"He is supposed to be a good champion," added Damaen Kelly. "He is a bantamweight which is a step up for me so I have to watch the heavier punches.
"It's a natural progression for me to step up - I have been a flyweight since I was 17," Damaen Kelly added.
