Boxer Clinton Woods needs tendon surgery
Light heavyweight boxing champion Clinton Woods will not fight again this year because he needs an operation to repair a torn tendon in his arm.
The injury, which gave him trouble during his victory over Glen Johnson earlier this month, first showed up last September.
"They need to cut out a piece of muscle in my left forearm, just below the elbow, which has been giving me a lot of pain over the last year," Clinton Woods, 34, explained.
"I just want it done now so I don't have to worry about it," Clinton Woods added.
Clinton Woods became aware of the injured tendon as he prepared for his first IBF title defence against Julio Gonzalez last year although in spite of the problem troubling him during his title defence against Johnson in Bolton, Woods went on to win the bout.
"During the middle rounds it was giving me some real pain but then Johnson must have landed some of those big shots because I just had to stop thinking about the arm and worrying about winning the fight," Clinton Woods said.
Clinton Woods is optimistic and feels the operation will not damage his boxing career and hopes to face fading legend Roy Jones to exact revenge for a defeat back in 2002.
