Boxer Carl Froch nearer to fighting Joe Calzaghe
Boxer Carl Froch moved nearer to a super-fight with compatriot Joe Calzaghe, also from Wales, when he was made the WBC's third-ranked super middleweight.
Carl Froch, 28, the British and Commonwealth champion, became the first fighter to stop Belfast's Brian Magee last month.
"We will target the European title and then a final eliminator," said Carl Froch's promoter Mick Hennessy.
"When he does meet (IBF and WBO champion) Calzaghe it will be one of the biggest upsets in world boxing."
Carl Froch is unbeaten in 19 fights and with an impressive 15 wins coming inside the distance and he is ranked fifth by the WBO, ninth by the IBF and 15th by the WBA.
Mick Hennessy is confident his charge will be ready for a world title fight this time next year.
"I strongly believe that Carl is the best super middleweight in the world and he will prove that over the next 12 months."
