Boxer Amir Khan pulls out of fight with Jon Thaxton
Bolton boxer Amir Khan has pulled out of the bidding and won't be facing Jon Thaxton for the British title after all.
The fight had been intended to have doubled as a defence Amir Khan's Commonwealth lightweight crown, but instead he will be concentrating on his bout with Denmark's Martin Kristjansen in London on 2 February.
British Boxing Board of Control general secretary Simon Block is reported to have said sadly: "With the great end in 2007, this match was to be one of the most eagerly awaited but months of tentative negotiations for the domestic super-fight came to nothing.
Jon Thaxton's camp had turned down a very reasonable offer from Amir Khan's promoter Frank Warren outside the bidding process, before Amir Khan decided to focus his efforts on the other fight
Amir Khan could now lose his Commonwealth crown and boxing officials will be meeting to discuss this, after Jon Thaxton had earlier demanded that Amir Khan be stripped of it if he withdrew from the fight with him.
