Boxer Amir Khan admits driving BMW through red traffic light
Bolton boxer Amir Khan has admitted in court that he drove his BMW through a red light before his car knocked over pedestrian Geoffrey Hatton.
Amir Khan, 20, has been charged with dangerous driving after Geoffrey Hatton, 55, was hit by Amir Khan's vehicle causing a broken leg. The incident happened in the Bolton area of Bradshawgate on 2 March in 2006.
Amir Khan admitted to Bolton Crown Court that he was driving "faster than it was safe to do" just before the accident happened, although he nevertheless maintained that he wasn't driving dangerously.
However, it is known that Amir Khan reached a top speed of 47mph when his car knocked Geoffrey Hatton down.
Amir Khan also agreed he had driven straight through the junction in the wrong lane, although he denied "jumping" the lights.
Amir Khan admitted he had been guilty of driving without due care and attention and that he had put pedestrians at risk but said he did not believe his driving was dangerous.
Amir Khan, whose trial continues, said: "Mr Hatton came into the path of my car. I did not mean to hit Mr Hatton."
