Bolton boxer Amir Khan could be arrested
Bolton boxer Amir Khan has been given a warning by District Judge Tim Devas that he could be arrested if he fails to attend court over a speeding charge.
Amir Khan, 20, stands accused of driving at 140mph on the M62 near Rochdale, Greater Manchester, on New Year's Eve 2006 but neither Amir Khan nor his legal team were present at Rochdale Magistrates' Court for the pre-trial review on Friday.
Judge Tim Devas stated that Amir Khan could be arrested if he doesn't turn up at next week's hearing, which has had to be rescheduled, and he explained: "The matter will proceed to a conclusion one way or the other next week. If he does not attend, a warrant for his arrest could be issued."
The judge added that he wanted a letter from Amir Khan's legal team saying why they failed to be in attendance.
Amir Khan is also charged with failing to produce a driving licence or insurance certificate, and his case is adjourned until Friday 2 November
