Amir Khan tips Frankie Gavin to win Commonwealth Games gold
Olympic silver medallist Amir Khan has tipped his former boxing
sparring partner Frankie Gavin to win Commonwealth Games boxing gold
for England.
Frankie Gavin was Amir Khan's specialist southpaw training partner in the preparations for Athens 2004.
The Birmingham lightweight is bound to get a bronze medal at least if
he wins against Nigeria's Rasheed Lawal in the quarter-finals on
Wednesday.
Amir Khan said: "Frankie's very capable of getting a gold medal. He looks good and is a very confident fighter."
Frankie Gavin has had two impressive wins so far beating Ovidiu Bobirnat of Cyprus and Indian boxer Jai Bhagram.
And Amir Khan, who is progressing incredibly well in his career as an unbeaten professional said: "He looks very sharp.
"He's a strong lad and he's come on a lot since I left the amateurs.
"He's a southpaw as well so he's going to cause a lot of problems for the other boxers because he's going to be awkward."
Frankie Gavin is hoping to follow in the footsteps of Amir Khan, who was one of the stars of the British team in Athens.
