Amir Khan faces his hardest test
Lightweight Amir Khan is expecting the hardest test so far in his
boxing career when he takes on his first foreign opponent for over six
rounds on Saturday.
19-year-old Amir Khan, who gained Olympic silver in 2004, faces 21-year-old Belarussian Vitali Martynov in Nottingham.
After four straight wins in his career so far, Amir Khan's fifth bout
as a professional boxer will see him stepping up to six rounds for the
first time.
Teenage boxer Amir Khan said that he was happy with how his career was progressing.
"I am progressing quite quickly as a professional," Amir Khan
said. "And now in this my fifth fight, I'm fighting a European boxer in
a six-rounder."
Amir Khan said he was still hoping to be the youngest-ever British world champion.
"It's going to be hard - it's going to be tough - because there are a lot of tough boxers out there.
"But I think I can do it and a lot of people have that confidence in me as well."
Amir Khan, who turned professional boxer last May, is not expecting to
challenge for any major titles in 2006, but he is working on building
up his experience before launching a world assault next year.
