Amir Khan's promoter says his boxer won't be rushed
Promoter Frank Warren says of 19-year-old Amir Khan that he will not be
rushed into a title match despite calls for the boxer to face tougher
tests.
Amir Khan has successfully breezed through his first five professional
matches and he claimed an easy victory over Belarussian Vitali Martynov
in 75 seconds in Nottingham on Saturday.
Frank Warren said: "We're making the right moves. We're not putting him top of the bill, so we are not having people on.
"Let's not start saying he should be fighting for a world title right now."
Amir Khan is still unable to fight for a British title until he turns
20 next December but he could fight for a different belt before that
date.
And Frank Warren added: "For us to even be discussing his opponents after just five fights I find amazing.
"Muhammad Ali fought someone called Donnie Fleeman in his fifth fight
while Sugar Ray Leonard fought a guy with four wins and 10 losses.
"Given his age, his experience and the pressures he had, Amir was fantastic (against Martynov).
"He still has a lot to learn but he is adapting well as a pro. I just can't tell you how good I think he looks."
Amir Khan will soon find out who is next opponent is as he prepares for
his sixth professional fight on 25 February, on the undercard of Danny
Williams v Matt Skelton at London's ExCel Arena.
