American Paul Malignaggi beat champion Lovemore N'dou
American boxer Paul Malignaggi out-pointed champion Lovemore N'dou to win the IBF light welterweight title.
Paul Malignaggi, 26, made use of his speed to stay in control and to stop his opponent doing any damage. Paul Malignaggi is now on his way to his 23rd victory in 24 fights.
Paul Malignaggi landed a left-hook counter in the ninth round and in so doing made the only knockdown in the bout. Two judges gave it 120-106 while the other scored the knockdown 118-108.
Lovemore N'dou, 35, had claimed the IBF title in Australia in February and had won the last six fights he'd had so this defeat brought an end to his run of success.
The fight was Paul Malignaggi's second title bout, almost a year after he lost a unanimous decision to Miguel Cotto for the WBO version of the title.
Reflecting on this, Paul Malignaggi said: "I have something to strive for now. I can strive to fight Cotto again one day."
