US sprinter Tyson Gay has hamstring injury
US sprinter Tyson Gay has withdrawn from racing against Jamaica's Asafa Powell at Crystal Palace due to a hamstring injury.
The race is scheduled to take place on Friday, and is considered as one of the highlights of the London Grand Prix so it is unfortunate that Gay will have to miss out on it.
World 100m champion Gay decided he didn't want to potentially risk hurting himself more ahead of the 100m heats, which start at the Olympics on Friday 15 August, and he explained: "I don't want to risk doing anything to set things back."
Gay is being treated for the injury in Germany but he hopes to be recovered in time to take part in the Olympics in Beijing.
Gay sustained the injury during the 200m at US Olympic trials and a scan at the time showed a mild strain, however, it became worse and was considered serious enough to need specialist treatment in Munich.
