US sprinter Justin Gatlin to challenge ban
Former US sprinter and Olympic 100m champion Justin Gatlin is going to fight against the four-year ban he received for failing a doping test in 2006.
Justin Gatlin's original eight-year ban, given to him by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (Usada) had been reduced to four years after an appeal earlier this week, but Justin Gatlin is not satisfied with this.
The Washington Post quoted Justin Gatlin as having said: "I know in my heart I haven't done anything wrong. I have been robbed. I have been cheated of an opportunity to finish my career."
And Justin Gatlin's lawyer John Collins explained: "We are going to have to continue to fight because Justin has not done anything wrong."
And he added that Justin Gatlin's options now included appealing to the International Association of Athletics Federations, taking the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport or filing a federal lawsuit.
Usada stated that an arbitration panel had voted 2-1 for the four-year ban, which would mean that Justin Gatlin wouldn't be able to compete again until 24 May, 2010.
