UK sprinter Mark Lewis-Francis to miss Olympics
UK sprint athlete Mark Lewis-Francis is now very doubtful as a contestant in the Beijing Olympics this year after suffering an Achilles tendon injury.
Mark Lewis-Francis, 25, partially tore his tendon whilst training in Cyprus and now is in need of surgery.
Katharine Merry from UK Athletics (UKA) thinks this is serious enough to finish Lewis-Francis's career as a sprinter and she said: "He is one of the athletes I do worry about, in the sense of keeping him involved when he has had a big setback like this.
Mark Lewis-Francis is said to have been enjoying training and to have been showing a lot of confidence and enthusiasm before he hurt himself.
UKA performance director Dave Collins said: "On the positive side, it's good that the injury has been caught now before a full tear occurs as this would have been potentially career threatening."
