UK sprint hurdler Andy Turner injures back
Andy Turner, who is the leading sprint hurdler for the UK, has been forced to abandon all hopes of being in the World Indoor Championships in Spain in March because he has ruptured a disc in his back.
Andy Turner, 27, who holds Commonwealth and European medals, hurt himself during warm weather training in South Africa and he said disappointedly: "It's frustrating because I was feeling great. I really felt like I could get a medal."
Andy Turner will be away from sport for between two weeks to two months, depending on how quickly he heals up and the extent of his injury.
Andy Turner is currently unable to make the 11-hour return journey from South Africa, so for now he must remain abroad and depend on the UK Athletics's travelling medical staff to treat him.
"I can only stand up or lie flat on my back at the moment. I'm not allowed to sit down - not even to eat," Andy Turner explained.
