Swedish athlete Christian Olsson injured
Swedish athlete Christian Olsson has withdrawn from the World Championships in Osaka due to injury.
Olympic triple jump champion Christian Olsson, 27, injured his left hamstring during the Golden League event in Rome on 13 July, and then made it worse during training in Japan.
Christian Olsson, who also had to miss the 2005 championships in Helsinki with another foot injury, explained: "I just felt something go in the back of the thigh."
Christian Olsson's decision to withdraw has given his UK rival Phillips Idowu a better chance.
Christian Olsson had been performing so well earlier in the summer, and a winner in Paris and Rome, however, he got the hamstring injuey in the latter competition and his non-appearance at the DN Galan Grand Prix on 7 August, as well as last week's Swedish Championships, have shown how serious the problem is.
Christian Olsson is sidelined for the rest of the season and is focusing on making a recovery.
