Swedish athlete Carolina Kluft suffers injury

kluft Swedish athlete and Olympic heptathlon champion Carolina Kluft has had to pull out from the World Indoor Championships in Valencia in March due to injury.

Carolina Kluft, 25, hurt her thigh on Thursday while she was getting ready for the GE Galan International in Stockholm.

Carolina Kluft's doctor explained: "It's a minimal tear in the muscle, but it still means the indoor season is ruined."

However, bad news for Carolina Kluft is good news for British athlete Kelly Sotherton who now has more chance of winning gold with her rival out of the contest.

Carolina Kluft it is hoped will have recovered well enough for the Olympics in August, although earlier this year she had suggested she may not defend her heptathlon title at the Olympic Games because she only wanted to concentrate on winning the long jump.

"I definitely want to do the long jump. I'm putting a lot of effort into the long jump and a lot of focus as well," Carolina Kluft said in January.
