Sprinter Marion Jones loses Olympic medals
American sprinter and athlete Marion Jones has been ordered to return the medals she won at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, it has been reported.
Marion Jones, 31, has also been given a two-year ban, even though she had already announced her retirement last week when she admitted her guilt about the doping to a New York court.
Marion Jones confessed to having taken tetrahydrogestrinone (THG) from September 2000 through to July 2001 and to have lied to investigators.
Marion Jones loses the three golds she had won in the 100 metres, the 200 metres and the 4x400m relay, along with two bronzes for the long jump and the 4x100m relay.
Marion Jones said the THG she used came from the San Francisco Balco laboratory that was at the centre of American sport's biggest doping scandal.
The US Olympic Committe has called for all athletes who participated with Marion Jones in the relays to also give back their medals because, USOC boss Jim Scherr claims, they were not won fairly.
