Sprinter Jason Gardener may dash home if the baby arrives

gardener Sprint athlete and defending 60m champion Jason Gardener has admitted that if his wife Nancy is due to give birth to his second child during the European Indoor Championships then he will be dashing home.

Jason Gardener, who is nicknamed the "Bath Bullet," says that if his wife goes into labour, he will return home after the heats finish and come back in time for the Sunday final. The baby is expected to arrive on Saturday, which is the same day Jason Gardener takes part in the qualifying rounds in Birmingham.

Jason Gardener said: "Once my qualifiers are out of the road, if the birth gets under way, I'll be racing back home."

Jason Gardener, who is hoping to win his fourth successive European title, has been given a new car by Lexus to help him travel and bearing this in mind he said: "Obviously, I am having to play things for the moment by ear, but this will make things so much easier if I have to rush back and see Nancy."
