Sportswoman Jane Tomlinson dies of cancer
Sportswoman Jane Tomlinson has died aged 43, after a seven-year battle with cancer.
Jane Tomlinson died at St Gemma's Hospice in Leeds at 2100 BST on Monday.
Jane Tomlinson, who was the mother-of-three, had been honoured with a CBE for charitable services in June, in recognition of her work in raising £1.75m in a series of difficult challenges.
In the year 2000 Jane Tomlinson was informed that her metastatic breast cancer was incurable and that she had just six months to live, however, she went on to prove the doctors wrong and to take part in many sporting events afterwards.
Despite her cancer, Jane Tomlinson completed a full Ironman (4km Swim, 180Km bike ride and full marathon) inside 17 hours, and she had completed two half Ironmans, and the London Marathon 3 times, as well as the New York Marathon and three London Triathlons.
Jane Tomlinson is the only athlete known to have ever taken part in a marathon while receiving chemotherapy.
Jane Tomlinson's husband Mike and children Suzanne, Rebecca and Steven paid tribute saying were heartbroken but "honoured to have been blessed with such a wonderful person".
