Selectors push for a decision by Kelly Holmes
Kelly Holmes will not be hurried into deciding whether she will run in
the Commonwealth Games, even though selectors have threatened to
withdraw her place.
Chris Carter, chairman of England selectors, said: "We expect to hear from Kelly by the end of this week.
"If she doesn't tell us by then, we could withdraw her invitation."
But Kelly Holmes' manager Jane Cowmeadow said: "We haven't been
informed of that time-frame. She's been in liaison with UK Athletics
about her decision."
Kelly Holmes, has now fully recovered from the Achilles injury, which
forced her to miss the World Championships, may make a final
announcement at a news conference on Tuesday.
But Jane Cowmeadow added that Kelly Holmes, who is currently training in Monaco, could not hurry her choice.
Jane Cowmeadow said: "She's very close to making a decision - it could be any day.
"But once that choice has been made, that's it for her career - so it's a very big decision to make.
"She will only go if she's in medal shape, if she can go 100%. Kelly's not going to say that she'll go, only to then pull out.
"She had an enforced 10-week break from training because of the injury.
"That's another part of her decision - whether she can make up the ground for the time she hasn't been training."
