Scottish athlete Lee McConnell must stop hurdling
Scottish athlete Lee McConnell, who is a Commonwealth Games bronze medallist, has had to give up on the 400m hurdles due to medical advice.
Lee McConnell, 29, hasn't given up on the Olympics though because she can still take part in the flat race. Lee McConnell, who was part of the British bronze medal-winning relay team at the World Championships in September, had been top of her country's 400m rankings in 2002 and 2003 before she changed over to hurdles.
Lee McConnell received specialist medical advice after recurring back and hamstring problems gave her trouble again, and she flew to Munich to be examined by Professor Has-Wilhelm Mueller-Wohlfahrt
Lee McConnell and her coach Roger Harkins had a difficult decision to make but they both knew that she had to quit hurdling and she said: "It was difficult for Roger and I even to discuss it, though we'd both reached the same conclusion: that I must stop hurdles."
