Paula Radcliffe tips Mizuki Noguchi to win in Beijing
Long distance and marathon runner Paula Radcliffe has tipped Japanese athlete Mizuki Noguchi as a very serious contender for the 2008 marathon title in the Beijing Olympic Games.
Mizuki Noguchi, 29, made her comeback after recovering from leg injuries to clock an impressive time of 2 hrs 21 mins and 37 secs and to win the Tokyo Women's International Marathon. "She ran very well," said Paula Radcliffe.
Mizuki Noguchi hasn't yet been confirmed as being in the Japanese team for Beijing but it is now looking very likely indeed.
Paula Radcliffe is reported to have said: "I haven't raced against Noguchi for a long time, but certainly she's one of the top contenders,"
"The depth in Japan is so deep her place isn't even guaranteed, even though she is one of the main contenders."
Mizuki Noguchi was taking part in her first marathon since she claimed a national record in the Berlin Marathon in October 2005.
