Mara Yamauchi withdraws from World Road Running Championships
British runner and favourite Mara Yamauchi has pulled out of Sunday's World Road Running Championships in Hungary.
Mara Yamauchi, 33, is suffering from a viral infection and has also withdrawn from the New York marathon in November and it will be the first time for more than two years that she will not be in the British team at a major event.
Natalie Harvey has also withdrawn from the 20km race because of an injured back leaving Wendy Jones and Susan Partridge as the only British representatives.
UK Athletics selectors had asked Tracey Morris and Birhan Dagne to be replacements but both were unable to accept after competing in last weekend's Great North Run.
Great Britain hasn't sent a male team to the event, which is a replacement for the World Half-marathon Championships.
In the women's race, the main contenders Ethiopia's Berhane Adere and Uganda's Dorcus Inzikuru are also doubtful because of injuries.
