Jo Pavey carries on despite Great North Run collapse
Exeter runner Jo Pavey was determined to carry on despite her post- race collapse at the Great North Run and she plans an impressive performance at the Great South Run on 22 October.
Jo Pavey, 33, battled dizziness on her half-marathon debut but wants to prove she can progress to distance road running in the 10-mile Portsmouth race.
Jo Pavey explained: "After what happened in the Great North Run it was always my plan to get in another long distance race.
"I just want to get out there and show I can produce a good 10-miler."
Jo Pavey, who is a Commonwealth 5,000m silver medallist, wants to follow in Paula Radcliffe's footsteps and so she is changing her career on to the road rather than the track, although her half-marathon debut on Tyneside on 1 October did not go according to plans.
Jo Pavey finished a creditable fourth but then collapsed on the floor after stumbling over the finish line.
Jo Pavey was diagnosed with low blood-sugar levels but she feels she can combat this.
"I had the problem a few years ago at the 2002 Commonwealth Games and never thought there would be a re-occurrence," Jo Pavey explained and added: "However I have maintained my fitness and yesterday did a 17 miles training run. Portsmouth fits in perfectly with doing that and my preparations have gone very well."
