Jamaican sprinter Asafa Powell goes for gold in Norway
Jamaican sprinter Asafa Powell has his eyes set on a first global 100m crown at Friday's Golden League opener in Oslo, Norway.
Although Asafa Powell, 24, is current Commonwealth champion he has yet to win gold at either world or Olympic level.
Asafa Powell said: "I'm confident that I can combine a successful Golden League campaign with gold-winning performances at the World Championships in Osaka."
Asafa Powell won the 100m jackpot in last year's Golden League when he was winner in all six contests.
Asafa Powell was undefeated over 100m in 16 outings and twice managed to equal his own world record of 9.77 seconds.
Asafa Powell has so far given a very impressive performance this season with a 9.97secs run in Belgrade on 29 May.
Asafa Powell main rivals at the Bislett Games will be Trinidad's Darrel Brown, double European champion Francis Obikwelu, and African record holder Olusoji Fasuba.
