Jamaican sprinter Asafa Powell beats Usain Bolt
Jamaican sprinter Asafa Powell defeated compatriot and world record holder Usain Bolt in the contest between the world's fastest men runners at Tuesday's Grand Prix in Stockholm.
Powell, who had watched Bolt claim his record back at the end of May, finished and won the race in 9.88 seconds, just one hundredth of a second before Bolt.
25-year-old Powell nevertheless had to overcome a charge towards the end from 21-year-old Bolt for a third straight win in Stockholm and the best result of the season.
Powell had previously been beaten by Bolt at Jamaica's Olympic trials earlier this year so now he was making good for that defeat.
Usain Bolt set the world record of 9.72 in New York on 31 May, and this beat Asafa Powell's time of 9.74.
Both the Jamaican sprinters will be at Crystal Palace this week, as well as American Tyson Gay, in what is probably the last time they are taking part in sport before the Beijing Olympics.
