Italian pole vaulter Giuseppe Gibilisco wins doping appeal
Italian pole-vaulting champion Giuseppe Gibilisco has won his appeal against a two-year ban for a doping offence.
Giuseppe Gibilisco, 28, had been suspended in July by the Italian Athletics Federation (FIDAL) at the request of the country's Olympic Committee (CONI) for "the use or attempted use of a banned substance or of a prohibited practice".
Giuseppe Gibilisco, who won bronze at the 2004 Olympics, had threatened to retire from pole-vaulting if he was not successful in his appeal.
However, now CONI has said it will be seeking to overturn the decision that clears Giuseppe Gibilisco's name.
A FIDAL spokesperson explained their commission had decided to lift the suspension because Giuseppe Gibilisco had never failed a doping test in his past career so there was no reason to think he had broken his past history of being clean of drugs.
