IOC delays decision on medals of disgraced sprinter Marion Jones
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is reported to be putting a decision on the reallocation the medals won by disgraced American sprinter Marion Jones on hold.
The IOC was ready to delete Marion Jones's medals from the official records this week but is concerned that other athletes may also be part of the Balco, which is the US company that supplied many stars with drugs, doping scandal.
IOC member Denis Oswald explained: "We feel that some names of athletes may still appear. It will be a matter of months before a decision is taken."
Denis Oswald also said: "We want to know more about the Balco case and be sure that other athletes who may be positively affected by the upgrading are not involved in this."
In October, Marion Jones, 31, admitted she had used steroids before the 2000 Sydney Olympics where she won a record five medals, including three gold, however, the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) subsequently banned her for two years.
