Haile Gebrselassie wins Fukuoka Marathon in Japan Ethiopian double Olympic 10,000m champion Haile Gebrselassie has become the winner of the Fukuoka Marathon in Japan on Sunday.
Haile Gebrselassie, 33, won the race in two hours six minutes 52 seconds.
Haile Gebrselassie was just 56 seconds slower than the year's best time, which he had set himself when he was the winner in Berlin nine weeks ago.
Haile Gebrselassie made his break with just less than three miles left, while Ukrainian Dmytro Baranovskyy and Moroccan Jaouad Gharib were in second and third places.
Canadian-based British marathon runner Jon Brown, 35, came in at seventh place, because an injured foot prevented him making a better finish and the chance of a new personal best.
Jon Brown had to settle for a time of 2:11.46, after injuring his foot around the 20-mile mark.
"Everything was going pretty well when one of the new set of insoles I have started using in my shoes gave me grief," Jon Brown said.
