Dutch athlete Lornah Kiplagat breaks Paula Radcliffe's record
Dutch athlete Lornah Kiplagat broke Paula Radcliffe's world 20km record when she won the IAAF World Road-Running Championships in Debrecen on Sunday.
Kenya-born Lornah Kiplagat clocked 63 minutes 21 seconds to cut five seconds off the record set by Paula Radcliffe five years ago.
Lornah Kiplagat fought hard against Constantina Tomescu-Dita, of Romania, who was runner-up in 63:23.
Meanwhile, in the men's race Eritrea's Zersenay Tadesse won in 56:01 for the second fastest time on record.
A triumphant Lornah Kiplagat said: "I used to have the world record over this distance but then Paula took it and I wanted it back.
"I knew before the race I could break it. I said to myself, 'If Constantina wants to push the pace, I can go with her'. I was always very confident I could win but knew for sure I was going to with three kilometres to go."
