Disgraced sprinter Marion Jones' teammates lose medals too
Disgraced sprinter Marion Jones' relay teammates have lost their medals from the Sydney Olympics eight years ago because the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has decided they should no longer stand as awards.
IOC legal adviser Francois Carrard says the US Olympic Committee has been ordered to give back the medals, however, Marion Jones' teammates are annoyed by this and may take the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Marion Jones had won 4x100m bronze and 4x400m gold in 2000 but she had already lost her individual medals after admitting she was guilty of doping before the Olympic Games.
The sprint relay team that stands to lose their medals included Jearl-Miles Clark, Monique Hennagan, LaTasha Colander-Richardson and Andrea Anderson, and the 400-relay team was made up of Marion Jones, Chryste Gaines, Torri Edwards, Nanceen Perry and Passion Richardson.
All the athletes who were in the event with Marion Jones argue that it is unfair that they are being punished for her crime, however, IOC spokeswoman Giselle Davies said: "The decision was based on the fact that they were part of a team, that Marion Jones was disqualified from the Sydney Games due to her own admission that she was doping during those games."
