Craig Pickering beats Jason Gardener in Sheffield
European Junior 100m Champion Craig Pickering beat Jason Gardener to win the 60m final at the European Indoor Trials and UK Championships in Sheffield.
Craig Pickering, 20, has also defeated Jason Gardener at the Kelvin Hall in Glasgow and in Stuttgart this season and it was just 18 months ago that he was persuaded by UK Athletics performance director Dave Collins to study at the University of Bath so that Jason Gardener's vastly experienced mentor, Malcolm Arnold, could coach him.
"It shows I'm in very good shape at the moment," Craig Pickering had commented about his success.
Craig Pickering won in 6.58 seconds with Ryan Scott in second place while three-time European champion Gardener was only a disappointing seventh position.
Craig Pickering was delighted with his triumphant win, which has put him as a favourite for gold at the European Championships in Birmingham in March.
However, Craig Pickering didn't think Jason Gardener was beaten yet and he commented: "I'm the best in Britain but there is a lot more to come from Jason Gardener yet."
