British triathlete Tim Don wins World Triathlon Championship
British triathlete Tim Don defeated the defending champion Hamish Carter and won the World Triathlon Championship in Lausanne.
Tim Don was too strong for his opponent from New Zealand, who finished runner-up some 11 seconds behind and Frederic Belaubre from France came third.
Will Clarke made it an excellent weekend for the British team by taking top spot in the men's under-23 competition and with Leeds teenager Alistair Brownlee winning the junior event on Saturday, the British side claimed a total of three golds.
"It was the best performance of my triathlon career," said Tim Don. "I won on this course as a junior in 1998 and to take the senior title here is so rewarding. I'm stoked."
Following a strong performance in the swim leg, Tim Don positioned himself in the leading pack on the bike and with com`patriot Stuart Hayes, they pushed through the hilly course in a breakaway group that included Hamish Carter and European champion Frederic Belaubre.
