British sprinter Jamie Baulch retires from athletics
British sprinter Jamie Baulch has announced his retirement from athletics after a 15-year career in the sport.
32-year-old, Jamie Baulch, who comes from Wales, won medals at World,
European and Commonwealth level, and was part of the 4x400m team that
claimed silver at the 1996 Olympics.
The Welshman also snatched gold in the individual 400m at the 1999 World Indoor Championships.
Jamie Baulch is eighth on the list of fastest British 400m times, setting a personal best of 44.57 seconds in 1996.
"I'd like to run faster but my body just can't do it anymore," Jamie Baulch told the Wales on Sunday newspaper.
Jamie Baulch said the highlight of his career was during the final of
the 400m at the 1999 World Championships, when Michael Johnson broke
the world record.
"I may have finished last in the final, but I was the first to give Johnson a congratulatory hug," Jamie Baulch added.
