British cross country runner Mo Farah beaten by Sergiy Lebid

mo farah Ukrainian Sergiy Lebid beat British cross-country runner Mo Farah over 4km in the Great Edinburgh International Cross Country event at Holyrood Park on Saturday.

Sergiy Lebid stalked 5,000m silver medallist Mo Farah from halfway before winning in the final 200m and Ethiopian defending champion Gelete Burka won the women's 6.7km race.

Even more success for Ethiopa then followed when world number one Kenenisa Bekele won against an elite field in the men's 9.3km race.

Kenenisa Bekele, 24, produced one of the most incredible performances ever seen at this level when, with three laps still to go, he changed into top gear and easily beat his rivals.

And Kenenisa Bekele boosted the number of cross-country victories to 26 since he had been defeated by Haile Gebrselassie in December 2001.

"It was a good beginning to 2007," said Kenenisa Bekele, and he added: "I am very happy that I won my first race of the year. I expected it because of the training I have done."
