British athlete Jo Pavey out of British squad for Kenya
Track and field athlete Jo Pavey has had to pull out of the British squad for the World Cross Country Championships in Kenya next weekend.
Jo Pavey, 33, suffered a bout of flu when about to get ready for the event and the illness also ruined her attempt at the 3,000m at the European Indoors, where she came in in seventh position only.
Jo Pavey has recovered from her recent illness and is currently training in South Africa but she wants to focus on the 10,000m.
"My top priority at the moment is getting the qualifying time for the World Championships," Jo Pavey explained.
Jo Pavey has not run a competitive 10,000m before and doesn't want to risk leaving it until the summer to get the mark needed for August's World outdoors, in Japan.
Jo Pavey's absence will go against the British women's team's hopes and chances.
