Banned Greek sprinter Katerina Thanou may move to UK
Banned Greek sprinter Katerina Thanou is considering moving to the UK, according to her lawyer Dr Gregory Ioannidis.
Katerina Thanou, 31, was banned for two years after allegedly missing three drugs tests before the 2004 Olympics and her suspension ends on 22 December.
Katerina Thanou's services had been offered to Milton Keynes Athletic club but Dr Ioannidis said "there were concerns she had been involved in a doping case," however, he claims some London clubs have shown an interest.
"There were concerns in Milton Keynes that she had been involved in a doping case," he told the Daily Telegraph,"But there has now been interest from some clubs in London."
Dr Ioannidis, who is a lecturer at Buckingham Law School, added: "Katerina wants to be closer to me for legal assistance and she has not made any firm decisions yet."
Katerina Thanou, who claimed the 100m silver at the Sydney Olympics in 2000, and her former training partner Kostas Kenteris were both banned by the International Association of Athletics Federations for violating anti-doping rules.
