Athlete Paula Radcliffe to get UK Athletics support
British long distance-runner Paula Radcliffe is among 43 athletes who will receive support from UK Athletics' (UKA) World Class Podium (WCP) top-tier programme in time for the 2008 Olympic Games.
Paula Radcliffe, who won the New York Marathon, will probably get training, and medical assistance, rather than actual funding.
UKA are reported to have increased the WCP pool by seven this year and they have specifically funded members of their relay teams who otherwise would not be able to receive support under the strict individual regulations.
Grants will be between £11,965 and £23,930 for those athletes who can get them.
UKA performance director Dave Collins explained: "The relay provides us with outstanding returns in terms of medals against investment.
"A proportion of the increase in numbers receiving podium support is to ensure the relay programme does not falter in what is a key Olympic year."
