American sprinter Tyson Gay aims for 100m record
American sprinter Tyson Gay is looking forward to making an attempt at the 100m world record at the London Grand Prix at Crystal Palace on 3 August.
Tyson Gay, 24, has a good chance of achieving his goal because he is the fastest runner over 100m this year with a time of 9.84 secs at the US Championships in June.
Tyson Gay said he hoped he could beat the current 100m world record of 9.77 seconds, which is shared by Asafa Powell and Justin Gatlin.
Last year, Tyson Gay made a very impressive win over 200m at Crystal Palace with a stadium-record time of 19.84 secs and he said: "I know how quick the track can be."
Tyson Gay has continued to perform well this season and won the 100m at the British Grand Prix in Sheffield earlier this month, in spite of the rain.
"You have to be able to win whatever the weather and I was happy to do that against a strong field," Tyson Gay said.
